JD and I have already been blessed with two showers and my "real" one is happening this Sunday. I'm so excited!
The first one was at my work on the 18th. My BFF Natalie works here with me so she organized it with the help of two other co-workers. I work with mostly women and we always do something for girls who are having their first baby.
I've probably mentioned this before, but I get so nervous when I'm the center of attention. I freak out and my face turns beet red (really, it's a rather startling shade... I've seen it happen in a mirror before) and I just want to fall into a hole in the floor. So knowing this, Natalie requested that everyone bring the gifts unwrapped so I wouldn't have to open them in front of everyone! She set all the gifts out on a table with little blue cards saying who each item was from and I was able to just look through the gifts without everyone staring at me the whole time. The shower was laid-back and relaxed and there were no cheesy games, it was just a time to snack and visit and look at cute baby things. It was so perfect.
Here's the gift table. The lovebug is so spoiled already!
And here's the food table. They also had my favorite cake, Berry Chantilly from Whole Foods. If you've never tried it, do yourself a favor and get in your car and drive to Whole Foods right this very second and get you some. It is heavenly. Like, really, that's all I want to eat all day long when I get to heaven. I was super sad that I couldn't eat much of it (I had two little bites) because of my GD diet. I would show a picture of it but it has the bug's name on it and I haven't made my decision about whether to share his name on the blog yet. I probably will but not 100% sure.
The one on the left is Natalie. She and Dawn (in orange) are both pregnant too. We literally have about six or seven pregnant co-workers right now! We joke about the water here. If you're trying to get pregnant I can totally send some to you!
And here are a couple of shots of the crowd. I feel so blessed that all these ladies showed up to celebrate my boy! Or maybe they just wanted a little break from work, but either way it was a wonderful turnout :-)
The following Friday, some of the moms of JD's baseball players surprised him with a shower at school. After practice, the principal called him into the library saying she'd received an email from a parent that she needed to discuss with him. The players hightailed it to the library where I was waiting with the moms and JD's family, and we got him good! He had no idea what was going on. I knew about the shower probably a month in advance and had the HARDEST time keeping the secret! I can't tell you how many times I almost slipped and said something to him. I hope I never have to keep a secret from that man again.
Here's a shot of when he realized what was going on. I love his beautiful smile :-)
And there's the smile again! Look at that cute little glove. I can't wait until my two boys can play catch in the yard together.
His 3 year old nephew, Cooper, was there and was more than happy to help open presents. Such a good little helper!
This picture cracks me up. I didn't get a lick of food by the time the boys were finished with the table. But I didn't mind a bit, I'm just impressed that a bunch of high school boys sat peacefully through a baby shower!
Instead of an actual cake, they had cupcakes that were bunched together and iced to look like a cake. Pretty cool! It says, "Home Run... It's A Boy."
They played this game where the seniors had to drink apple juice out of a bottle and whoever finished first won a gift card. Let me just tell you, it's not as easy as you might think it would be! I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard! Those poor boys! But they were such good sports about it.
We've already been literally showered with presents and still have another shower this weekend! I'm so thankful for and humbled by the people who have contributed. It's so sweet to know that they all care about our baby before they've even met him.
I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend because I know I will! :-)
